Art in Eastbourne - New Cultural Centre

A fantastic new Cultural Centre, housing the Gallery Collection, previously held by the Towner Art Gallery, will be completed by Spring 2008 and will be open to the public this summer. It will be constructed next to the famous Congress Theatre which is only a short walk along the beautiful Seafront from The Lorsiton Hotel. Along the way be sure to take in the breathtaking splendour of the Carpet Gardens.

The Cultural Centre will bring a 21st century addition to Devonshire Park, Eastbourne’s cultural quarter, and will be an exciting new venue to visit while staying here in Eastbourne.

The new Eastbourne Cultural Centre will provide:

  • A new home for the nationally acclaimed Towner Art Collection
  • Galleries of an international standard
  • Conference exhibition halls
  • Community and education spaces
  • A café
  • A gift shop
The first Eastbourne Festival 15-30 March 2008, has been timed to coincide with the building of the new Cultural Centre and to celebrate the wide variety of art and culture that exists within the town.  The ‘Open House Event’ will run during the first Eastbourne Festival and will become an annual event. With over 80 artists registered to take part, this first ‘Open House’ event promises to be an explosion of creativity!

Each Saturday and Sunday through the Festival, artists will be opening their houses and studios to the public, exhibiting their work and talking about their muses and techniques.
